The project for the 2007 Printer in Residence programme is to hand-set and reprint 12 poems from Hone Tuwhare’s classic Come Rain Hail (1970). Dr John Holmes, owner operator of Frayed Frisket Press, will print the poems. Seven Dunedin artists are involved in the programme: Inge Doesburg, Simon Kaan, Mary McFarlane, Kathryn Madill, Olav Nielsen, Jenna Packer, and Marilyn Webb. They have each chosen a separate poem to illustrate. The results are thus unknown, but will surely be exciting.
The poems will be printed on Tiepolo paper and will be boxed in a portfolio format. The publication of 12 hand-printed poems and seven images is limited to 80 copies only.
For further information on this Otakou Press publication, tentatively called “12 by 6 & 1: Poems by Hone Tuwhare” please contact Catherine Robertson, acting Special Collections Librarian. Her contact details are: Catherine . Robertson (at) otago . ac . nz or phone: (03) 479-8330.

From time to time I get requests from people starting out, or who run short of stuff. Often I can help by giving them furniture, quoins, reglet, spacing, and occasionally type, from my stock piles.
If you are in Christchurch, or nearby, and have items you are prepared to donate to a good cause I may be able to make use of them. At the moment I can’t find homes for most presses but there is some demand for small items and supplies.
You can e-mail me at:

Thanks
Lawrence

The Motat Printing Section plans a work day this coming Sunday, 22nd April, from 11 a.m.
You will be able to admire the new Franklin Press (an exact replica of the press used by Ben Franklin, painstakingly constructed by Captain Frank Brough, and just moved on site this week!), set type, print pages, or help tidy the place up and catalogue what is there.
