Otakou Press – Dunedin
April 3, 2007 by LawrenceGail and I were in Dunedin from the 28th to the 30th of March. While there we visited the University of Otago library to view the exhibition Master of the Burin: the Book Illustrations of John Buckland Wright, 1897-1954. John Buckland Wright was born in Dunedin and became a prominent book illustrator in Europe and Britain in the 1930’s, 40s and 50s.
Just as we were leaving we met Donald Kerr, Special Collections Librarian at the University, and someone closely involved in the University’s Otakou Press. He very generously gave us a tour of the press room (adjacent to the exhibition) and talked about what was happening at the press. As a result I was able to do an Otakou Press page on the website, complete with photographs. It can be seen here: Otakou Press
A web version of the exhibition can be seen here: Master of the Burin: the Book Illustrations of John Buckland Wright, 1897-1954.
